Once I was proud

Once I was proud of this land of glory
But they took my blood, yes that's my story
They sucked me dry and they stole my soul
But through it all, now I am whole

They took my blood and they stole my soul
My life is hard, but I am whole
They took my blood and they stole my soul
My life is hard, but I am whole

They tried to shape my thoughts and dreams
When they took away the life I would lead
I will not go, without a fight
I'll try to make them see the light

In far off lands our soldiers die
Politicians are just born to lie
If only peace was as easy to sew
As the seeds of war that lay us so low

The wars we fight, they say in my name
Are to me, a great source of shame
I would not go, I would not fight
I'd make them see that it's not right

What if my life had never been
What of the things that I have seen
Would you believe the things I do
Would there be some of me, in you

They took my blood and they stole my soul
My life is hard, but I am whole
They took my blood and they stole my soul
My life is hard, but I am whole
